Cat Dental Care

At Vets on Parker

We provide comprehensive cat dental care to ensure your feline friend enjoys a long, happy, and comfortable life. Our team offers a full range of dental services for cats designed to prevent and treat dental disease, a common but often overlooked health concern in cats.

Why Cat Dental Health Matters

Cats are adept at hiding discomfort, so dental issues often go unnoticed until severe. Poor dental health can lead to tooth loss, infections, and even systemic diseases affecting the heart, liver, and kidneys.

Signs of dental disease in cats include:

How to Maintain Your Cat’s Dental Health at Home

1. Daily Brushing

Brush your kitty’s teeth daily with a cat-specific toothbrush and toothpaste. Use gentle, circular motions, focusing on areas prone to plaque, like the back molars.

2. Cat Dental Chews

Give them dental chews designed for cats to help reduce plaque and tartar. Choose products endorsed by veterinary dentistry experts.

3. Diet

Feed your cat a diet that supports oral health. Vets on Parker recommends Hill’s Science Diet T/D, the gold standard in dental care. Each piece is larger than typical dry kibble and has properties that help reduce tartar and calculus buildup. Consult your veterinarian for the best option for your cat.

4. Dental Supplements

Use powders like Plaque Off that can be mixed into your cat’s food to help reduce the binding of plaque onto their teeth.

5. Oral Mouthwash/Wipes

Use oral mouthwash or wipes to help control bacteria and maintain oral hygiene.

6. Veterinary Dental Checkups

Regular checkups are crucial for the prevention and management of tartar and plaque that home care might miss. It is recommended to schedule health checks every 6 months. Your veterinarian might suggest a dental scale and polish to:

Comprehensive Cat Dental Services

At Vets on Parker, we use dental X-rays, ultrasonic cleaning equipment, and other facilities to provide thorough cat dental care. After completing an ultrasonic clean, our team will create a dental care plan tailored to your furry friend’s needs.

Jessie has been visiting the team at VOP since she was 8 weeks old, she is now nearly a 15 yo Labrador. Dr. Kevin and the whole team at reception, other vets and nurses have treated her like a family member. VOP have looked after Jessie during emergency visits and routine appointments and have always been accommodating and patient. Jessie will soon be relocating to another city and unfortunately will not be able to see the team at VOP. Thank you to everyone for looking after her.

Vets on Parker are a wonderful clinic, with even more wonderful staff. A special shout out to Dr. Erica and Dr. Kassy. The whole Vet Nurse Team are kind, caring and knowledgeable. The clinic has offered exceptional support to both of my pet dogs, especially my very senior dog who has since passed. I am so grateful for their innovation and care that they provided during such a difficult time.

FAQs

Can my cat’s teeth be cleaned without anaesthesia?
Your cat must be anaesthetised for a thorough dental examination and cleaning, including X-rays. This ensures a comfortable experience, accurate results and effective care.
The cost depends on factors like tartar buildup, gum health, and whether teeth need extraction. To get a clear idea of the cost, please book an appointment for a detailed evaluation.
This can vary based on their age, breed, and current dental health. Typically, check-ups every 6 to 12 months are a good rule of thumb. Our vets can give you tailored advice based on your cat’s needs.
If your cat has a broken tooth, contact your vet as soon as possible. Broken teeth can be quite painful and can lead to infection. Our team will examine the tooth and suggest the best treatment options.
